Nextstep

Nextstep is a free friendly service that offers face-to-face help and support about training, learning and the world of work. 

Just about everybody needs help with improving their skills, finding or changing their job and improving their skills at some point in their lives.

Your personal nextstep adviser will talk with you in confidence to help you plan your future by linking your personal interests and skills to a job or career.

Your adviser will also help you:

  • understand the job market
  • search and apply for jobs
  • find funding to support any learning
  • develop your CV
  • improve your interview and presentation skills
  • by suggesting ways to progress in your current job

Jobcentre Plus

Jobcentre Plus is a government agency supporting people of working age from welfare into work and helping employers to fill their vacancies. The agency is part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and plays a major role in supporting the Department’s aim to ‘promote opportunity and independence for all through modern, customer-focused services’.

Connexions

Connexions is for young people between the ages of 13-19, living in England and wanting advice on getting to where they want to be in life. It provides support up to the age of 25 for young people who have learning difficulties or disabilities (or both).

Connexions Direct is part of the Connexions service and provides free information on a wide range of topics as well as confidential advice and practical help.

Directgov

Directgov is the website of the UK government for its citizens, providing information and online services for the public all in one place. Directgov aims to provide easy access to government information and services. It does this by working closely with ministerial departments and non-departmental public bodies to collate key information all in one place.Examples of subjects Directgov can help with include:

• booking your driving test
• finding a job
• paying your road tax
• finding local services such as NHS clinics, solicitors and nurseries.

Alliance of Sector Skills Council

The Alliance is an organisation comprising all 25 licensed UK Sector Skills Councils (SSCs), the employer-driven organisations that together articulate the voice of the employers of around 90% of the UK's workforce on skills issues.
