What is it?

Two downloadable guides designed to provide information specifically for and about asylum seekers and refugees. You can use the guides to help and advise the people you work with, and to signpost them to other sources of guidance.

What’s new?
Our guides for refugees and asylum seekers have been updated in response to feedback. Changes include: greater information on obtaining work experience in the UK; what to expect from a work placement; education fee rates for 2008-2009; additional web links and new references to IAG materials for advisers.

How do I access the guide?
There are two versions of the guide: one for you, the adviser, and one for your clients for their reference. The clients' copy is available in Arabic, English, Farsi, French, Kurdish, Pashto, Somali, Tigrinian, Turkish and Urdu. The guide is in PDF format. What’s included?
The guide covers topics such as: immigration status, rights and entitlements, learning English, training and education, volunteering, employment and requalification. 

Who are the guide for?
There are two versions of the guide - one guide is for you, the other is for your clients to take away and use for their own reference.

What are the key benefits?
The guide is:

  • available in the nine most common refugee languages. You can download versions in Arabic, Farsi, French, Kurdish, Pashto, Somali, Tigrinian, Turkish and Urdu.
  • user-focused - the guide was written following feedback from focus groups and in consultation with asylum seekers, refugees and their advisers
  • reliable - produced by RAGU (Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit) at London Metropolitan University.
